Rebekah's News
Rebekah is making slow and steady progress, With her blood counts becoming consistant and gradually increasing. We
have been having meeting with school about Beka going starting part time in September. She will be nearly two years
behind. Rebekah still has to be in Hospital twice a week, either london or Worthing for on going treatment. The next big
stage will be in August, as that will make it a year since the transplant.
Rebekah Bailey: Summary
Please pray with us and for our daughter Rebekah 13 years old
After having a rash for a few days and seeming ok. Rebekah had a blood test on 15th Jan 007, it was discovered that she
has bone marrow Failure, Severe Aplastic Anaemia. This is a serious rare disease that develops when the bone marrow fails
to produce blood cells. It all has been a massive upheaval to our family.
Beka is being treated for Severe Aplastic Anaemia. This is a rare condition - one in a million- in which there is a failure of
the bone marrow to produce sufficent blood cells.Rebekahs body is not producing the white blood cells that fight infection (
neutrofils). This makes her totally vulnerable. Helen has finished work to care for Rebekah in hospital. Rebekah's
immediate treatments have been red blood cell transfusions and platelets transfusions and IV antibiotics. She has been in
the local district hospital and a specialist hospital in London. The "cure" is a bone marrow transplant which which Rebekah
had in August 2007.
We are still in the early days of post transplant treatment. lots of tests, examinations, checks, on-going
treatment for the forseable future its all quite intrusive and intense.
Rebekahs bone marrow is less than that of a new born baby so she is still very vunrable and prone to infections that if not
dealt with swifty can do a lot of damage and endanger all thats been so painstakingly acheived. The hospital has to monitor
Rebekah for graft versus host disease , this is where her body could reject the new bone marrow. Rebekah will continue to
have immune-suppression drugs, that should help prevent this from developing.
She won't be able to return to school until 2009 and then only part time.
The provision of home tutoring is quite limited but Beka's tutor is really good and kind.
Also, we shouldn't really take Beka to places used by the general public, she is not allowed to use public transport
because of infection risks.

If you have given already thank you.
your kindness and support has kept us going.
Your gift makes a big big differance, I have had to cancel so many family Shows at the last minute as Beka has been so ill.
And feel so bad dissapointing so many people, but how can i travel and talk about how important your children are, then
leave my daughter so ill. Thank for standing with us thru prayer during this uncertain and difficult time.
if you would like to give you can now do this online and help financially

When I asked my boys (8 and 9) what they remembered about Jim’s show some weeks later, they recounted in detail one of
the illustrations he used (the dirty handkerchief - what a good picture!) Jim’s enthusiasm is so contagious that even the
most sceptical looking mums and dads were soon boogying. The show is fun, engaging AND theologically sound!
